Starchild Shine your Light Campaign

Updated: Apr 30, 2020

Giving Tuesday Now is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on 5 May, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19 Starchild recently lost a ten-year old boy at the Mango Tree School, a school that Starchild helps to support. He drowned, trying to get fish from the River Nile because he was hungry. With schools closed in Uganda, most of these children simply do not eat. There is little to no support for donations of food, food banks, or coupons. The situation is absolutely dire, and that is why we lost a child. Also, all forms of aid have been reduced during this vital time. So far, Africa has a relatively low number of deaths but it is impacting on lives over there and if it does hit they do not have the infrastructure to cope.

We are all so grateful to the NHS, but there is no NHS in countries like Uganda. This highlights once again just how important our NHS is to us, but it also highlights the vast discrepancy and injustices in the world and planet we share. Covid- 19 is bringing this to our attention in no uncertain terms.

Giving Tuesday Now is an opportunity for people around the world to stand together in unity, to use their individual power of generosity to remain connected globally and heal our world globally.

Starchild want YOU to shine your light in the dark.

We hope our friend will come together on giving Tuesday and show off their skills or lack off for fun and try something new. Film it on your phone, post it and spread the word on Giving Tuesday. Starchild is challenging our friends and friends of friends to give a masterclass, give a concert, show us how you paint, draw, recite a poem, a drama, dance, sing, cook, cocktail making, bread making, comedy sketch, basket weaving, show us your gardening skills, dog training skills, writing tips, reading from a book, magic tricks, drumming, waxing, reiki or any other skill or talent you have hidden away or something you want to try. Let us into your world on Tuesday! Tell us something we wouldn't necessarily know that you know, lead a meditation or prayer, anything you feel connected to. Do it alone or as a family. Then post it on social media, share it and mention you are doing it for Starchild. If people like it, they can donate for you on this page and mention your name or not. Let's just have fun online for a good cause and spread the love.

At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and in their own because giving feels good - no matter how small the act it has the power to resonate more good. It is a fundamental value anyone can act on.

Humble thanks from all at Starchild.
